Simon practices as a Registered Architect in Hong Kong under the HK Cap. 408 Architects Registration Ordinance Cap. (Registration No.0658) since its enactment in 1991. He was professionally trained at the University of Hong Kong and acquired the Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies (B.A.(A.S.)) in 1982 and the Bachelor of architecture (BArch) in 1984. He passed the Professional Assessment of the Hong Kong Institution of Architects (the HKIA), and was admitted as a member in December, 1986 (Member No. 1040). He registered and was elected as a Corporate Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects on November 11, 1987, and as Associate of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects on September 3, 1987. He satisfied the professional interview under HK Cap. 123A Building (Administration) Regulations Section 4 in relation to the registration under the said Ordinance as Authorized Person (Registration No. API 84/87), and have been continuously registered since March 9, 1988.

Simon practices started to continually act as the Interviewer for the HKIA’s Professional Assessment which is the final qualifying process of local architects since 2006. Through CEPA and the prescribed qualifying examination, he was accepted as Class 1 Registered Architect of PRC in August 2004. He further acquired Master Degree in Arbitration and Dispute Resolution (MAArbDR) in 2007 and the Master in Law (LLM) in 2009 with electives on Intellectual Property Laws, Competition Laws, the HK Basic Law, Common Law and Real Property Laws. In 2013, he was awarded with Doctor in Juridical Science (JSD) with thesis topic entitled as "From Right to Interest - Specialised Facilitative Mediation (Construction)". In 2016, jointly by HKCAC and Sweet & Maxwell, he authored and edited a book titled " Construction Dispute Prevention and Resolution in Hong Kong 2016". The book records contributions from various renowned speakers in the HKCAC Conference held on 19 March 2015 with the theme "Construction Dispute Prevention and Resolution in Hong Kong" with a summary on the prevalent development and epoch of construction disputes and their demands for professional and specialised dispute resolution process design and delivery and market responses to such need. It has become a valuable album that provides a stepping stone to future development.

Since 2006, Simon focuses and participates in the sector of construction disputes and has been continually a member of the Contract and Dispute Resolution Committee of HKIA since January 2006, and offers his professional consultation service on arbitration since 2007. He completed the HKIA’s Continuous Professional Development course in “Architect as Expert Witness” with certificate and enlisted in the HKIA's List of Expert Witness in 2007. He has, on behalf of the HKIA, reviewed and written commentaries on the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre’s Proposed Administered Arbitration Rules on March 20, 2008 and the Department of Justice’s Consultation Paper on Reform of the Law of Arbitration and Draft Arbitration Bill on April 15, 2008. In January 2010, he qualified through professional assessment to be a Fellow of HKIArb as an Accredited Arbitrator.  He gave seminar to professional institute such as the Institute of Engineering and Technology in May 22, 2008 on the subject of Intellectual Properties.   He established in February 2006 the Hong Kong Construction Arbitration Centre (HKCAC) and has been acting as the president to promote prevention and resolution in construction disputes through all forms of formal and informal resolution processes which includes the training of professionals for that purpose. He has been serving as expert witness on litigation cases and consultative advice on dispute resolution, arbitration and mediation.

Simon runs his own professional consultancy practice since first established in 1993 and re-established in 2000, to provide professional services on project management, architecture, interior design, structural engineering, building services engineering, quantity surveying and dispute resolution covering arbitration, mediation, expert witness and , associated services.   In 2009, two partnerships were formed – the new CentreStage and with BeSpark Technology.  The former is a highly specialized professional consultancy mainly focus in the design of theatres, concert halls, auditoria, opera houses and all environmental projects in collaboration with Ir. Dr. James Wing-Ho Wong, the President of Allied Environmental Consultants Ltd, the renown consultancy in acoustics and environmental engineering.  The second partnership with BeSpark focuses on the design and delivery of LED lighting which includes projects on architectural and façade lighting, advertising signs and billboards, interior theme and energy efficient lighting schemes.
